O insólito aconteceu na Alemanha num jogo entre o Mainz 05 e o Sant Paul. O árbitro Thomas Metzen, depois de um lance mais agressivo entre dois jogadores de cada equipa, decidiu ser prático (e jogar pelo seguro? antes que um deles lhe tirasse o cartão da mão) e mostrou 2 cartões amarelos ao mesmo tempo. Microsoft has announced plans to change its strategy on anti-virus software, in an attempt to upgrade PC security, particularly outside the developed countries. It’s a tacit admission that its OneCare strategy hasn’t worked: it hasn’t gained significant market share, and it hasn’t impacted the malware industry.Microsoft says it will keep OneCare going until it releases new software code-named Morro in the second half of 2009. This “will provide comprehensive protection from malware including viruses, spyware, rootkits and trojans. This new solution, to be offered at no charge to consumers, will be architected for a smaller footprint that will use fewer computing resources, making it ideal for low-bandwidth scenarios or less powerful PCs.”

Na Alemanha um prisioneiro, condenado a 7 anos por tráfico de droga, fugiu da prisão dentro de uma caixa de papelão enviada por correio.
O fugitivo, um cidadão de turco de 42 anos, estava a trabalhar em conjunto com outros prisioneiros no fabrico de artigos de escritório destinados a lojas. Segundo o que foi apurado pelas autoridades da prisão, situada em Willich, próxima da cidade de Düsseldorf, o homem escondeu-se dentro da caixa de papelão no final do seu turno.
O serviço de correio expresso semanal recolheu o correio umas horas depois, e como é óbvio recolheu o prisioneiro dentro da caixa de papelão. Pouco depois de sair da prisão, o prisioneiro rasgou a caixa e fugiu. As autoridades foram avisadas pouco tempo depois pelo motorista do camião do serviço de correio.

If your VLC is showing green and purple insteed of the natural colors when playback video go to the Extended Settings under the Tools menu, Video effects, Basic and adjust the colors options below. Hit the Close button and enjoy vlc.
P.S: I know this is a codec issue but i haven’t found any proper fix to all video playback programs (except mplayer), if you’ve some clues give me a hint please.

O presidente actual George W. Bush está á 8 anos sem poder enviar/receber emails, e confessou á pouco tempo atrás que está desejoso de voltar a realizar estas simples tarefas.
P.S: (*) Contudo Barack Obama tenciona levar um portátil para a Sala Oval, e já há rumores que ele pode vir a ter uma conta de email (apenas para os ler).

Yesterday after upgraded my VAIO to Intrepid some problems happened. One of them was:
nm-applet just didn’t appear on the gnome-panel and when opening the nm-connection-editor (also as root) an error appeared “can’t modify settings (…) read-only”. After some trys to fix this the most efficient one is:
sudo apt-get remove –purge network-manager
sudo apt-get install network-manager
And, voilá! NetworkManager is working and with no errors.

Just like it happened in Hardy, sound cards using chipset SigmaTel STAC9872AK can have no audio output. The solution is:
sudo echo “options snd-hda-intel model=vaio” >> /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base

sudo reboot

During your trips abroad, have you ever found yourself in a situation where you feel lost and uncertain due to a language barrier? Imagine you travel to China and are sitting in a restaurant in Beijing staring at a Chinese menu with no idea what the characters mean. Or you’re stood on a platform on Moscow’s underground trying to get your bearings – trying to work out where you are and to where you want to get to.
Soon these worries will belong to the past. By simply pointing your mobile at the text and taking a photo your Nokia Multiscanner will translate the text and display the text in your chosen language.
How does this work?
After you have taken the photo of the text you want to translate, your mobile identifies the text in the photo and then translates it for you. This process uses Optical Character Recognition (OCR) technology to recognize the text and then the application uses language libraries to finds the equivalent word in your language.
Language libraries are stored in the device and can be updated over the air (OTA) directly to the mobile. The language library for an alphabet language, for example English, French, or Greek, requires approximately 600 kilobytes; and for a character-based language, for example Chinese or Japanese, 3 megabytes is required.
Nokia’s working prototypes are already capable of translating text between 52 languages.

As Forças Armadas da Suécia acabam de desenvolver o primeiro aeroporto móvel do mundo, que será utilizado para agilizar missões internacionais e proporcionar ajuda aérea rápida e eficaz em áreas atingidas por catástrofes naturais.
Com o novo sistema, que começou a ser desenvolvido em 2002, os militares suecos serão capazes de montar um aeroporto totalmente operacional simplesmente abrindo alguns contentores, virtualmente em qualquer região do globo.
O equipamento inclui torre de controle, computadores, radares, sensores meteorológicos, sofisticados sistemas de rádio e luzes de pouso – tudo facilmente embalado, transportado e montado.
“Se um tsunami destruir um aeroporto, por exemplo, nosso aeroporto móvel pode ser rapidamente instalado em um campo aberto para que as operações de ajuda aérea possam ser iniciadas”, disse à BBC Brasil Jan Sorberg, líder do projecto no Departamento de Materiais de Defesa (Försvarets Materielverk, FMV).
Os testes finais estão a ser conduzidos actualmente no campo de testes de mísseis de Vidsel, no norte da Suécia. O novo aeroporto móvel estará pronto para entrar em operação em Dezembro, e vários países já expressaram interesse na nova tecnologia.

Ubuntu Intrepid has a known bug in usplash which it’s not shown at boot/shutdown time. Therefore only text is shown. I haven’t got a solution to use some random usplash but i’ve found one usplash who work’s on Intrepid. Download it and enjoy usplash during boot/shutdown time.
